Professor Jim Unah of the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos, is an internationally renowned Philosopher and Administrator. Within the past thirty years, he has served the University of Lagos in diverse capacities as Chairman and member of several Committees, Boards and Administrative Panels, including the Postgraduate School, Senate and Council Committees, and has extended such dexterity to several institutions including The Premier University of Sao Tome and Principe, Central African Republic, Gulf of Guinea – where he doubled as Dean, School of Languages and General Studies, and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics).
During these years, he has also been involved in teaching and grooming young Philosophers and Researchers up to PhD level. He has authored over twenty books, tendered chapter contributions in more than forty publications, numerous articles in local and international Journals, and several contributions to National Dailies such as Vanguard, The Punch, The Guardian, The African Guardian, Media Review, National Concord, Business Day, Sunday Mirror, and many others. His scholarly achievements is made obvious on Google Scholar and Worldcat as his works were cited in several publications in the area of African Philosophy, Metaphysics, Phenomenology, Ontology, Ethics and Cultural Studies.
Jim Unah obviously combines theory with praxis, and has been a member of internationally reputable bodies, such as The Oxford Round Table, Oxford University, Oxford, England; the Nigerian Academy of Letters, NALS; the American Studies Association of Nigeria (ASAN); the American Biographical Institute’s Advisory Board, and International Society of Phenomenology and Human Sciences. He is the current President of The Nigeria Philosophical Association (NPA) – an umbrella that binds all Philosophers in Nigeria together. These contributions have merited several Honours and Awards, some of which include 2005 Distinction Award of The Alumni Association, University of Lagos, the 2006 Leadership Merit Award of Time News, Nigeria; the most recent and outstanding being the Distinguished Professor Award of the University of Lagos.
In recent times, Unah works along with his Research team on Ethics Education and Ethics Curriculum; towards promoting and actualizing the teaching of Philosophy, Ethics and Values in Nigerian Pre-University Educational Institutions.
